WPI Tool Kit
Calculate the weight of any yarn with this handy toolWith more and more designers and yarn manufacturers
using
Wraps per Inch to classify a yarn, it is now easier to substitute a yarn you may already have on hand for the one called for in your pattern.  Spinners have long used this type of tool to create new yarns to a specific grist, but knitters are also learning that it is valuable information to have.

And here's a beautiful handmade WPI tool.
Hand-turned solid cherry, with a handy hanging hole.

Simply wrap the yarn around one of the notches, ensuring the strands lie close together but do not overlap or stretch too tightly.  Then count the number of wraps to find your wraps per inch.  Also handy for weavers to measure ends per inch

Measures 5.5", with 2 different recessed areas for measuring different weights of yarn.

A nostepinne (or nøstepinne) is a portable tool that has been used by yarn crafters for genereations  to hand-wind yarn into neat, center-pull balls

It's a simple, old-fashioned alternative to a yarn winder and swift, ideal for travel or small projects, and creates consistent yarn cakes that sit flat for easy use

And we are offering this beauty, hand-turned from curly maple, with a satin smooth finish and beautiful wood grain.  Measuring almost 9" in length it is ideal for all grists of yarn and I've also found it useful for sock mending!
